Where India's tigers live
Three maps built from official records: the protected tiger reserves, how many tigers each state holds, and the five landscapes that the national census groups them into.
An illustrative trail linking the five landscapes. It is decoration, not the route of any real animal.

Tiger pugmarks and camera-trap locations are real, but publishing exact positions would hand poachers a map. Official reports share counts by state and landscape for the same reason, and so do we. If you see signs of poaching, call your forest department or the authorities listed under Take action.
About these maps. They are simplified illustrations to show where tigers live, not survey maps. The outline shows India's boundary as claimed by the Government of India, including all of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh; for legal or survey purposes use the Survey of India. Reserve dots are approximate points, not reserve boundaries. The exact locations of individual tigers are deliberately never published, because poachers could use them.
